moms.today.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/10/18/8383462-no-more-crib-bumpers-says-american-academy-of-peditrics“We concluded that if there’s no reason for them to be in the crib, it’s better to just have them out of there, particularly in light of the deaths that have been reported, that have been associated with the bumper pads,” said Rachel Moon, MD, FAAP, of the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, chairperson of the AAP SIDS task force and lead author of the new guidelines. What do you think? Will you still use crib bumpers or follow the AAP's recommendations?

I didn't even put them in the crib this time with DD3 so I guess I'm ahead of this recommendation coming out, LOL!

We had bumpers with DD1 but none with DD2 and if theres another baby in our future we will probably not use bumpers.

Pres sleeps better with them.. it made it seem more cozy and blocked out any light from his direct line of vision while he's laying down. I guess I'll just keep these ones and use them for the next one!! Are stores still going to sell them?

I do use them. DD2 LOVES to be up in the corner of her crib with her head tight. She can turn her head and we have the Angel Care monitor as well so I do not worry. DD1 loved her bumper too. She would wrap her arm around it and hug it.
I dunno, I can really see both sides.

We never needed or used them, when ds did sleep in a crib we never put them on. Heck, not even sure why we bought them?

I thought before the recommendation was when they are able to move around in the crib to take them out since there is a greater chance of them getting tangled up in them. Now they are saying to do away with them completely.

I don't think this is new. Our ped, our baby class at the hospital, and everything we read, said not to use them 7 years ago. AAP tends to wait until something is is old news before adopting it as policy - sigh.

I read this as a recommendation from AAP before DS was born, so about 4 years ago. I never bought them and DS only had a fitted sheet in his crib until about 10 months when he started to bring his fav. blanket in. Now as a 3 1/2 year old he fills his bed with more pillows, blankets, stuffed animals and books than one can imagine.

We spent the money on one of those cute crib sets from Babies~R~Us, then found out about the recommendation from our prenatal classes. DS is 14 months and just sleeps with a warm blanket, nothing else. I cringe when I see pics of peoples' children in cribs full of stuff!

We knew of the recommendation and started out without bumpers. Then DS started to move around his crib more and I notice the matteress didn't fit as tight against the rails as I was comfortable with, so I bought bumpers and shoved them between the materress and the rails. Now that DS is 15 months he enjoys shoving himself as tightly as he can in one corner of his crib to keep him from hitting his head on that corner I have the bumpers up.
