Also an awesome read. Let's support people with little kids; not shame them.

So true! I remember being the frazzled mom at Target just trying to get ingredients for dinner after a long day of work and a toddler who decided that screaming the entire time because I said no to a cookie would be a good idea.
Parenting is hard and it is even harder when we judge people based on little to no knowledge of the situation. One comment that a woman from my church made that struck me was that as a single mom she has virtually no one to tell her she is doing a good job as a parent with her 3 year old. She said even a knowing smile and nod from a stranger helps her. Wouldn't our world be a better place if people acknowledged how hard everyone is trying to be a good parent, even when the kids don't have the best behavior?

I almost always make an effort to smile or nod at a parent when they have a screaming kid and I can tell they look nervous/embarrassed.. I'd rather see a calm parent with a screaming child than a parent yelling/swearing at their toddler like I have seen in the past.

Same here. My heart just breaks for the kids who get yelled at and sworn at.

This is a random story, but years ago when DD 1 was like 2 YO, I saw a mom at a playground and her kid was having an all-out, throw-down hissy fit because it was time to go. I could tell she was embarrassed and getting frustrated, so I went over to her and said, "Wow, haven't we all been in your shoes? Do you need a hug?" She actually threw her arms around me and started to cry a little bit because she was just having a craptastic day and needed a kind word. I'm not saying this to pat myself on the back, but as a story of what a difference a kind word and some empathy can make in a parent's life when their kid is losing it and they're really struggling to keep it together. Because we've all been there.
