Have you ever been the victim of a crime, or witnessed one?

I've been stolen from a couple of times. Once I forgot my purse at the chiropractor and by the time I got it back all of my money was gone. I knew who it was that took the money but I couldn't prove it. Another time, in school during a play, our dressing room was broken into and, again, all of my money was stolen, but other people lost stuff, too. When I was bartending a guy came in and used a cheat card to get money off of the penny machines, I caught on too late and we lost over a hundred dollars. These are the only things I can think of, off hand.

When I was young and naive I lost about $50 in a scam (I was shopping for a new car, long story). So that sucked. But that's all that comes to mind (knock on wood).

I had my identity stolen in college....that was a mess to sort out.
Otherwise I have not witnessed a crime.

Long story short, I was followed home by a man at the grocery store. I had gone hiking that morning and had to stop for dog food. I quickly dropped it off, changed and went to work. About 30 minutes after getting to work I got a call from my security company that my alarm was going off. As a side bar I lived alone at the time. I had just bought my dream home. I laughed it off thinking I had left the door unlocked and the wind blew it open. While on the phone with them the lady said she was calling the police as my window break detectors were showing windows had been broken. I rushed home but stayed a ways down the road waiting for police. It was crazy. The guy was found in the house with the alarm blaring and admitted he was going to do scary things. My sweet dog was hurt but alive and she bit him to his bone in his leg. If it wasn't for her stopping him it may have happened again with worse results. He is in jail still for the crime and recently sentenced. Very scary. The 3 year date just passed and it still is something I deal with daily.
