I didn't want to LOSE my kids so young. Having the committment to school 3-5 days a week limits the days to do FUN stuff. I liked doing FUN stuff.

How exciting! I know you've been excited about this school for a very long time!
I'll echo those who like the 3 day option. My son always went 5 days because we both worked, but I've been a early childhood educator for many years, and have helped run a school for several years now. From what I've seen, the 2 day kids just have a much harder time adjusting - Thurs to Tues is so long. So it takes them a month, or sometimes more before they are in the routine and just have a lot of fun. The 3 day kids get there in a week or two, generally.
Certainly I've know 2 day kids who have done just fine and I wouldn't say it's universally a bad idea, but all things being equal, I think 3 days is much nicer for the kid.

Totally agree with Bunsy! My expertise differs from Sharon's(we have disagreed before on it I feel kids who go 2 days do just as well adjusting as those going 3 days. Once you attend the open house you can get a better feel for your decision.

Ds1 goes 3 days a week for 2.5 hours a day. He loves it and would like to go more days but it isn't an option. He also receives speech and occupational therapy throughout his day which makes his day go fast so i think he craves more fun time! I would never say anything about you snding him this next fall..seems like a good idea to me! Ds1 will do 3 yrs in preschool but he is special needs at the moment so it is very very necessary for us and his schooling is free. If that were not the case he would only go 1 or 2 yrs for preschool.

Bunsy, my ds considers school his fun! He adores it and cries if he misses it because he is sick. I must be too boring at home for him haha

We are in between 2 or 3 days. I say 2, DH thinks 3. Thing is I still want to do Children Museum, Zoo, MOA trips and all the other fun stuff we do together during the week without him being worn out. Granted he will probably be done with naps and we could do it after school but to me it is a bit much. I'm close with the head teacher there and I may sit down with her and hear her thoughts on it as she knows DS too. DH is saying time for another one...YEA RIGHT!

Are you locked in for the year? We've had a couple of parents do 3 days at first so their kids could adjust more easily, and then switch to 2 days later on.

We did two days and our son just loved it. It was more playtime than anything. I wouldn't have changed it for a thing.

DD goes 3 days a week for 2.5 hours. I wish she could have gone at 3 but it was not an option for us. She is doing well so I guess that was not that big of deal.
I think I would look at some other things to that would help me determine how long and how many days per week to send them. I would/have considered how well they do with seperation and interacting with other kids. If dd would have been struggling with seperation and not doing well with interacting with other kids I would have probably made it a priority to put her in preschool at 3 to get her more used to it so that by the time she gets to K she is comfortable and will easily go to school and be ready to learn. I would also look at where your child is at for what they need to learn prior to going to K, if my child is struggling to learn some things I would probably put my child in earlier for more rather than less.

Believe me we have thought about that stuff and I was just wondering how many days a week others put their child in, that is all. We factored in a lot of things but just wanted to hear what others had experiences with regarding the amount of days. Each kid is different of course but love hearing others thoughts.

ok I had a quick thought. Your DS will be going to preschool for 3 yrs right? Since you want to still be able to do fun stuff you could go 2 days a week the first year, 3 days the next year and then 5 days the year before Kindergarten.
My 5 yr olds biggest complaint about Kindergarten is it takes too long and he doesn't want to go. He went 2 days a week last year for preschool and then 3 days a week for summer school. He is missing his play time.

Ooh fun fun fun!! Your kiddo willl LOVE preschool. My four-yr-old goes two times a week this year, most days are 2 1/2 hours, but twice a month she stays all day, has lunch, and my DH picks her up at 4 pm (those two days each month I work 'til 6:30). I haven't decided yet if we'll stay the same next year (2 days) or go to 3 x a week ...

My oldest never went to preschool and my youngest only went because he got a scholarship through his daycare providers daughter (who ran the preschool) I beleive he only went two or three days a week for a few hours but he loved it! I would have let him go all five days if that had been available. His daycare was great but I have a strong beleif that it is better for them to be educated then playing games or being outside all day.
