OMG I'm excited and sad at the same time. We got our early registration for preschool in the mail today and looking into it they offer a few different days a week options. 1 day 2 day 3 day and a few extended day options and 5 days a week.
Automatically I would assume 3 is what the norm is but would like to hear other thoughts on what worked for YOUR family and what others reccomend? Price isnt a a concern just what the best for him and his schooling. And yes we decided to put him in this fall so please no comments on we could technically wait another year. No thanks. Just would love to hear what worked for you! My baby is growing up?!!!?!

BTW- the hours seem to be a typical 2.5 hour schooling if that matters.

My 5 yr old went 2 days a week and 2 of my daycare kids were going 2 days a week. 3 days is a nice option, I think it keeps them understanding more of the constant going rather then if you only went 1 day a week I do not think that would seem like a school thing. I have heard others like 5 days a week. Is it still 3 yrs til Kindergarten for your DS? Maybe you could do 3 days this next year and then if he is really good at that and gets it all the next year go 5 days a week.

That is a good idea. This school looks like it has Pre Kindergarten for ages 3, 4 and 5. So the schedule would be the same until actual Kindergarten. I think a 5 day is a bit much at 3, but I do not know. 2 or 3 sounds great. Thanks! I just cannot believe you have to register in January!

I know a place that will let kids in for 3 yr old preschool 3 months before they turn 3 if they are potty trained, BUT I wouldn't send my kid their so I tend to not mention it.

DD1 went to preschool 3 days a week when she was 3 and then again when she was 4. It was a long program, from 9-2 or something like that and they had lunch. It was in an elementary school so she got used to being in a school. That program has changed and we can no longer afford to do that plus daycare, so DD2 is going to preschool through our church. It is 2.5 hours twice a week for 3-year-olds, and then three times a week for 4-year-olds. Seems like they offer typical options - I would not think that 1 day a week would do much so personally I wouldn't go that route.

At 3 my kids went 2 days. It was ECFE so one day I went with them and the 2nd day was a drop-off day. At 4 they had 2 drop off days.

My kids went 2 days a week for 2.5 hours as well. It was at a church and I think they started when they were 3. It gave them some social interaction with other kids besides cousins, etc.

Exciting!!! DDs went 2 days/week the first year and 3 days per week the second year. Make sure you consider his nap schedule if he still naps too! DD2 doesn't nap but 2 days a week wipes her out and she is one of the oldest ones in her class since she turned 4 the second week of school. Plus it still gives us time to do other activities together on her off days.

We have had DS in full-time all-day preschool since he was 3 :/ His school has 3, 4 & 5 year old preschool so he went to 3 year old & 4 year old and will be starting Kindergarten once he is 5. For us it was either all preschool, or all daycare due to transportation. The price was the same either way and DS was getting bored in daycare because he was the oldest child and all they did was play (she didn't do any preschool or anything). So we picked preschool. DS LOVES it. I wish he didn't have to be there so much but he doesn't seem to mind.
Since you have the option I think that 3 days would be perfect for a 3 year old.

DS is 3 1/2 and goes 3 days a week for 2.5hrs a day. If it was up to him he'd go more! We're going to the St. Paul school fair on saturday, to explore more options. If I can finds a school that offers m more days or hours, we'll definitely consider it!

You all have awesome feed back. I was thinking I would prob not want him in 5 days a week because that doesnt leave much time for us to go do our fun things we thrive to do. DH is leaning towards 3 and I just do not know yet....I think I will figure it out more when I go to the open house next week and see what they say. Only thing is the school is about 20 minutes from the house so I would probably be not running home most days. But we choose what we choose I guess
