ouch on the car repairs! I hate that. My BIL is a mechanic so often he can fix things cheap for us if we get it to him. So lucky!

He's trying to hard to be responsible and take care of as many things as possible by himself. He just can't take that hit right now. He feels so bad. He said "Ugh. I don't want to take $400 from you". It is what it is. We need him to have a car or the family doesn't function so either way, we'd be paying.

It is hard when you are in between being a kid and adult and trying to be responsible and such but not earning enough to do it all. My parents bought me a used car when I graduated from college and they let us know that they expected us to be financially independent, but if we found ourselves in a bind they would help.
They paid for some of grad school for both my brother's so they are helping with my grad school tuition, I feel a little guilty but mostly grateful

College is something I've always paid for on my own. I feel like had I not gotten pregnant at 16, had a kid, "ruined my life" (in her eyes) then she would have paid for college, and probably more. She's helped quite a bit w/ DD and all, but I know she was never truly happy with that decision.

thankfully my mom worked for a college so I went for free for jr. college, then took out student loans for rest, but mom paid for books because I never worked while in school!

Sorry Amy- That sucks! My mom had to work her way through college and she didn't want that for us as kids. She and my dad helped as much as they could and I got a lot of scholarships/grants. Unfortunately for the type of grad program I am doing my only options is student loans or pay myself. I just don't make enough to pay tuition, daycare, mortgage, car payments, etc so it is a mix of pay ourselves, student loans and help from my parents for grad school
