Please share your induction vs natural labor stories! If I don't go into labor on my own by next Thursday, I have the option of being induced. My midwife would break my water and we hope that labor would start on its on, but I have to know that pitocin would be administered if not. I think I would only get induced if I have progressed further. I am sitting at 1+ cm dilated and fully effaced. I lost my plug 3 weeks ago, a couple days after I went into the MAC to have contractions stopped at 35.5 weeks. I am 38 weeks tomorrow and hoping I go into my appointment on Wednesday with some progression! I'll get an 'extra vigorous' exam, which is what started Solveig's labor and also had to have my water broken to help the labor keep going. I was having strong contractions last Wednesday until Thursday morning. Left my conference early and contractions stopped as soon as I got home! Wouldn't you know it!

I was induced with DD1 after being 2 weeks past my due date. Everything went pretty well. The only things I had trouble with were..... 1. She was sunny side up. If I didn't get the epidural I would have been able to walk around and she may have flipped. Nothing would help get her out.....forceps or suction. 2. It ended in a c-section after many hours of pushing. I think it was because I was just too tiny to get her out combined with her being sunny side up!
Good Luck, you've been on my mind a lot! I have your package all ready to send just haven't had time to get it sent yet!

I am not one to get induced unless it is needed, my first kid was one week late and weighed 8 lbs 6 oz, my second kid was 2 weeks late and we got induced for that reason (there was no signs of anything happening) he weighed 9 lbs 7 oz. I am one to think that the longer babies are in cook the better. I say nothing to anyone though on their own decisions. Maybe part of my thinking was due to I did not have a midwife and I was told ahead of time that I probably would not have my doctors I was seeing anyways. I didn't mind, I see though that if you only see one person the entire time you tend not to want to see anyone different.

We induced Tina when Ian was born, due to her PE. It went very well. She was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced and had been for a few days by then. Then they hooked up Pitocin in the morning and, did break her water at some point too. He was born that night. Other than the Pitocin the only meds she had were a local they injected before the episiotomy.

I was induced with pitocin with both my girls, both a week over due. Labor was easy(the epidural did help with that part) and quick IMO. With both they started the pitocin at night so I could sleep through most of it and by morning I was ready to push!

I certainly think that induction is a good thing in cases where there is another medical condition going on (ex. w/ Sharon's wife) or if you are 41-42 weeks.
Whenever possible I am in favor for myself of letting it happen naturally. That being said, I remember being 40 weeks pregnant with DS with pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome and not sleeping much and wishing he would come out or make any progress at all, induction sure was tempting. My OB told me that at my 41 week appt we would discuss induction and she would either induce me at 41 1/2 or 42 (with how the weekend fell). Well I never made it to my 41 week appt because I was at the hospital in labor. DS was 8lbs 5 oz and everything went well. I was born 3 1/2 weeks late (my mom was due w/ me Sept 17th and I was born Oct 12th) I was 9lbs 7 oz, but very healthy.
Good luck!

I was induced with both of my boys, not for a medical reason really. If I had another child, I would opt to wait to go into natural labor.
1st son- induced on my due date, had him on my due date- 8 hours of labor, I was nauseous the entire time and vomited until they gave me something to stop it. I did it all natural otherwise, no meds for pain. I don't know how, but I could not feel my contractions and did not know when to push, so I had to wait for the nurse to tell me to push. I pushed a total of 10 times and had my son within 30 minutes of starting to push. I gave birth to an 8 pound boy.
I had gained a lot of weight (60 pounds) and was so uncomfortable and retaining a lot of water, I think that is why they induced me.
I had some flukey thing go on about 6 weeks post partum with my son, I temporarily lost my eyesight for 6 weeks. I was hospitalized and diagnosed with Optic Neuritis and given IV Steroids to help regain my eyesight back. I was diagnosed with Probable Multiple Sclerosis and have not had a MS Symptom/Flareup since. I am not on medication for MS.
I was treated for Post Partum Depression.
This son was diagnosed with Autism at 2.5 years old.
2nd son- I was induced on my due date and had him the next day. I was in labor for 13 hours. I was given Pitocin and another form of inducing drug to get labor going, but it was at a standstill. I was contracting already when I had gotten to the hospital for my scheduled induction. I had only gained 35 pounds with this son and was very sick throughout my pregnancy with a scare of Placenta Previa.
I received a walking epidural for this labor and finally had 13 hours later. Again, I couldn't feel my contractions and they had to tell me when to push. I was put on oxygen during the labor because both my oxygen levels and my sons were dipping dangerously low. My son came out with the cord wrapped around his neck and was blue. I didn't get to hold him until after I got out of my bath. He was whisked away to check him out and they thought something was wrong with his heart, but there was not. He had slight jaundice.
I did not have any after labor complications with my health after giving birth to this son, (no eyesight problems, but I was scared as hell that it was going to happen again) I was treated for Post Partum Depression again with this son, but it was not as bad as with my first son. Although I gave birth to my first son, lost my eyesight and then the whole 9/11 event happened the next day I was released from the hospital, so I think I was having a mini breakdown. lol
My second son does not have Autism. He weight 8 pounds 2 ounces
yes, I'm a very honest person, sorry for all the details.
We are done having children, but I think i would like to experience natural labor instead of being induced. I also have a high pain tolerance though, but the 2nd son, I was begging and screaming for an epidural. I thought labor was to get easier with the 2nd one?

Thanks for sharing, ladies! I'm still on the fence. It'll all just depends on my appointment next Wednesday if I make it that far. Please send labor vibes my way, though! My midwife is on call this weekend so I'm hoping to go into labor anytime after Wednesday. I had Solveig had 38 weeks 1 day, so hopefully little brother follows suit.

good luck Lynsee! Little guys are stubborn and he'll probably make you wait til your exact due date, but by then hopefully he'll be eager to get out.

I was induced after being 8 days past my due date. DS was a very stubborn little man when it came to coming out! I had Pitocin and they had to break my water. I wanted to be induced earlier but they (the nurses at St.John's) said that unless there was a medical reason on my part or the baby's they legally (in the state of MN) could not induce until I was atleast 41 weeks. Good luck Lynsee!!! Sending lots of ~~~Labor Vibes~~~ your way!!

I was induced with both my girls. DD1 was 2 days before my due date. I had some pre-term labor since 36weeks. She was 9lbs 10oz, born vaginally. I had an epidural and a big tear.
Dd2 was 39w 1day. I had pre-term labor starting at 34 weeks, and dialating to 4cm at 35weeks. All they had to do was break my water. They gave me a little pitocin at 8cm because things we slowing a little. DD2 was 8lbs 5oz and gave me a tiny tear. No epidural this time.

I had to be induced with DS2 because I was leaking water. They started pitocin around 1pm. I had an epidural around 4pm, then they broke the rest of my water bag and he was born shortly after. It went fast and smooth!

Because I was small, my doc did not want me to go over more than a week, so the day after my due date with DD I was induced. She told me that all they should have to do to break my water. Before she got there they started pitocin. The baby's heart rate started doing weird stuff (real high, real low, etc) so I ended up with C-section-- DD had cord around her neck. I was given spinal instead of epidural. With DS I had been told I had been having pre-term labor since 33.5 weeks and on bedrest. I got them to push back the c-section date (back up date) until almost a week after due date since I wanted to try a VBAC and avoid surgery if I could. @ days before my due due I went into labor. Called doctor, called DH to get home from work, got to hospital within hour. They broke my water and heart rate doing stuff again so was given gas to be knocked out and wheeled into OR for C-section-- within 30 minutes of getting to hospital. DS also had cord around his neck.

I would say wait for your baby to make the move unless there is a medical necessity which threatens yours or baby's well being. Here is one resource arguing against inductions if you are interested: www.glorialemay.com/blog/?p=116
