I posted on MLM b4 about this sorry for asking again. If you have kids w/ allergies how do you keep them comfortable when they are miserable. Yesterday my ds was miserable from his allergies. He has a slu of allergies and he was just not himself, wheezy, blowing his nose LOTS, LOTS, not much of an appetite, had him take a warm shower to breathe in the steam, napped/rested, had him drink lots. He went to bed earlier than normal last night.
My MIL says to have him shower daily b/c the hair & oils could have allergy stuff in them.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks much.

My allergy kid needs medication in the early spring and in the fall. We're just about to start the fall doses I think. We've had to try several meds over the years. We finally have a combination of meds that works and makes him functional.

DS1's allergies are so bad that he is on meds year round. Once he is old enough we will start him on allergy shots. You can try giving him Sudafed to help or give a daily dose of 1 tbsp of local honey.

What is he on. My DS is on Zyrtec, Flonase and Singular. When we added the Singular we really noticed a huge difference. Now he hardly has any symptoms.

Ds is on: zyrtec, flonase, albuterol, prevident for his asthma. We use 2 filters in his room 3/4 of the year. When his allergies are bad then we vacuum his room at least 1x a day every day.

Singular makes a HUGE difference. DS does Allegra most of the time. He adds Flonase and Sinulair when it gets really bad. He also has prescription eye drops as at the height, his eyes swell shut.

Have you tried something other than Zyrtec? I know zyrtec doesn't work for me but it does for DH and DS1. I take allegra and that works best for me. Is DS old enough to start allergy shots yet?

We just saw ds's allergist right b4 school starts and he still hasn't mentioned anything about shots. We have tried other allergy meds that are OTC ones though we do the zyrtec right b4 bed. We see ds's allergist every 6 months.

If he's on Zyrtec and still suffering, I'd ask the doctor about changing meds. Zyrtec didn't work well enough for ds either. Allegra works much better. It's still OTC.

I have given him allegra b4 and we have tried prednizone for him once we do have a prescription for it right now we haven't filled it yet. Thinking about it though.

It really stinks when your kids are miserable and there in nothing much you can do. Our allergist told us the kids are ready for shots when they can understand that the pain of them will be worth the rewards of being able to breath.
How long ago did you have your air ducts cleaned out? and changed the furnace filter? We can tell a difference when we change the filter. We just buy the cheap ones and change it every 3-4 weeks.

Not sure when the air ducts were cleaned. Or when we changed the furnace filter. Actually we haven't used the furnace in a bunch of years we usually use the fireplace to heat the house.

Oh I contacted the helath nurse & hos teacher last night to give them a heads up about my ds last night and I heard from both today and the nurse hasn't seen him yet today that is a good sign, the teacher said he is doing good. I am sure he will be bushed when he gets home.
