Day 15: Today I am thankful for my friend Jessica Khemraj. Even though we have been out of touch for several years we just pick up where we left off. We are so totally differant but she loves and excepts me for me. So glad we got in touch again. Now if only our work/school schedules would let us hang out more! LOL
Day 16: Today I am thankful for my cousin JoAnne Presler. We have been enemies, friends, cousins, but mostly sisters at heart. She is always my best friend. We can go weeks without talking and pick right back up where we left off. We could be in the middle of the worst fight but if we really needed eachother we could call the other up and just forget about the rest.

November is Prematurity Awareness Month and Today, November 17th. 2012, is World Prematurity Awareness Day; 1 in 8 babies is born premature. I only know this as there is a woman on my facebook page (that I know only through facebook) is an an activist in this area -- as to how prevalent prematurity is, how serious it is, and how people in the US think that babies born early here, modern medicine makes it all better. For some it does. My children are an example of that (at least so far). But many babies, for a myriad of reasons, have on-going serious issues that continue for the rest of their lives. Or they do not survive at some point.
This facebook friend of mine, we have premature twin boys in common, have the same pediatrician and also had the same early childhood special ed team working with us when our children were first home from the hospital. I cannot remember who put us in touch with each other. It was probably one of the two. She used to be active on the original MOMSLikeMe website and connected me to that. And ultimately to you. If she isn't active here, I will have to facebook her as to how much her posts/status updates mean to me.
On her facebook page, she posted one picture in particular -- that made me stop in my tracks and think how incredibly blessed I am. I wrote something on my facebook in response to that picture. This is that note a second time ---
November is prematurity awareness month -- in case you didn't know. Another facebook friend, XXXXXXX, has been doing some amazing posts that continually remind me of how blessed I am. One particular picture of hers -- preemie diaper (not kind you buy in store; hospital grade for NICU babies only) is put next to 20 oz pop bottle so you can see the size of it perspective; I have that same diaper tucked away in my medicine cabinet. Along the way upstairs to get that diaper to look at it, I picked up a trail of discarded matchbox cars. With matchbox car in one hand, and the tiny diaper in the other hand, I realized something .... the quilted part that you put on their butt -- is essentially the size of a matchbox car.
Both my boys wore these tiny little diapers shortly after being born -- they was too big, and slid around their little tiny bony butts at the time. The nurse had to fold the tops down to allow their umbilical cords to have room to heal and for the leads attached to their small bodies monitoring every shallow breath and tiny heart beat.
Fast forward approximately 9 weeks to November 16, 2009 -- I brought my two munchkin boys home. They were 37 weeks gestation if I were still pregnant (40 weeks is ideal). They were almost 9 weeks since being born. Their weight was then 6 and 7 lbs if I remember correctly -- so different than their 2 lb. plus birth weights.
Fast forward to now -- November 15, 2012 -- I would never have believed I could get to this day -- were my biggest problem is whether they would rather die than share their matchbox cars with each other. Parenting at it's best and worst for me. Enjoy your little munchkins -- many don't get that miracle.
So, XXXXXXX, I am thankful for you for making me stop and realize, how blessed I am.
