I am hosting a party for dh's side of 21 ppl and I am trying to think of how to simplify my life so I am not cooking or baking the whole day of the party. I am thinking of a taco bar. Still thinking of the other meal. Party starts at 11:00- . Do you ladies have any ideas of how I can simplify my life for this party regarding the food only? TIA

Ask for help. Ask for people to bring a favorite side dish...that's how I would simplify it.

One person has asked what they should bring already. I hate telling ppl what to bring. I tried to do that once and I asked them each to bring 3 things and dh thought that was a little excessive.

I am going to cook the meat ahead of time, cut the stuff up for the tacos ahead of time. Set out whatever I can. I have so far as to label what is going into what container and yes I got crap from my BIL's, dh for doing that.

Well yeah I agree, asking someone to bring 3 things is a little much but I don't see a problem with 1 side dish or dessert per family and you just provide the main course...like the tacos.

I plan to do lots of baking next month. So the deserts will be taken care of unless anyone wants to contribute something.

We do game nights with DH's family quite often. The host (we take turns hosting) will cook the main dish and we each bring one thing, usually when its my turn to bring something I bring ice and beverages, my SIL will bring a dessert, etc. If you ask each family to bring a single item it will make your life a thousand times easier, and also keep your costs low. Break it all the way down to ice, beverages, dinner rolls, salads, fruit etc....

For christmas at my mom's house or if she comes to our house, its not really a meal, it's more of a spread that anyone can nosh on all day. We have sweets, fruits and veggies, buns, cheese and meat to make sandwiches with.
I would ask everyone to bring something in a certain category, someone can bring buns, someone can bring drinks, someone can be in charge of fruits and/or veggies, that way they can decide what they want to bring but you nave everyone bringing something different and not everyone is only bringing desserts.
Maybe I should read before I post, what irish said...

2 liters of pop for $5 is a rip off. You can get those for $1 each.

I will have to keep my eyes peeled for that deal then. Where do they sell them for $1.-? I will have to watch the ads.

My price point for soda is $1 for a 2liter and $5 for a 24 pack of cans. I don't buy it if it's higher than that.

I will have to do that. Thanks. I don't buy the 24 packs b/c we don't normally have pop in the house.
