How do you keep everyone happy food wise during lent? I am catholic so we observe the no meat during lent. My kids don't care for fish. They are ok w/ shrimp. They are ok w/ m& chz.
So if you observe the no meat thing during lent how do you keep everyone happy during lent?
Thanks.
Dh & I like salmon, shrimp, etc.

My wife says growing up they ate fish sticks, mac and cheese and grilled cheese. She also said it was just Fridays and Ash Wednesday. Do you do it every day?

No not everyday. Just ash Wed. & Friday's. They like grilled chz. We had fish patty like things the other night and they weren't real fond of those. We got a seafood mixture last year at Sam's Club and that didn't go over well at all.

What about nut based things - like rice or quinoa with nuts mixed in?
Also there are A LOT of really good fake meat products - or do you not want it to seem or taste like meat either?
Things with beans - vegetarian chili, tacos with beans instead of meet, ditto with nachos
edamame, tofu
Breakfast for dinner? Egg, french toast, etc.

We do the breakfast for dinner sometimes. Can't have nuts or peanut butter in b/c of ds's allergies. Can't have it taste like meat.

I like the ideas. We do like loaded baked potatoes here at our house so that would be good.

If the kids like grilled cheese, I'd make it for them every Friday. You can still make fish for you and DH. It's just 6 (?) weeks.

My kids loved the breaded cod fillets at sams, with no tartar sauce. Tuna mixed with mayo is good toasted with pickels and cheese. I tend to load up mac n cheese with vegetables, like broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, sometimes I put tuna in, kids eat it no issue. I do make it from scratch though with Velveeta and an assortment of various other shredded cheeses. I usually make my 5yr old suffer, but if she had her way, we would only ever eat at restaurants.
Oh my sister that doesn't like meat showed me a fancy grilled cheese, we used Munster, avocado and tomato slices. Sprinkle a little pepper and thyme or parsley and they are amazing.

Pizza is usually appealing to kids. You could stick with a 4 cheese pizza or Veggie/Cheese pizza.
If you want to avoid frozen pizza, it's an easy meal for kids to help you bake. When they have a role in making it, they usually will take more interest in eating it. Pre-made pizza crusts can make it fast to prep too. Turn on some music in the kitchen, pull out the ingredients, and treat it like a family activity.

We go to our church for Friday soup suppers. We volunteer as a family and eat there too. They have two different kinds of soup and mac and cheese. If we are unable to attend this I often do cheese pizza.
