Hey Ladies! How are you all? Long time no chat! It's been an insane year. I think it's finally slowing down a bit. This past year has been the most trying of my life and I realized that there is something missing in my life or really just missing from me. A faith, a belonging, maybe? I keep coming back to "Maybe I should try out going to church again".
I have not been to church since I was about 13. My parents didn't really ever go but sent us kids to the church down the street. Then left it to us to decide. I always talked to god, but I never really accepted the church as something important in my life. As I get older and grow and learn about life and deal with it's ups and downs, I feel a pull to try church again to see if it changes my life at all.
I am wondering if anyone of you have been in a similar situation where you were previously not too religious and began going to church and what you got out of it for yourself, how it impacted y our life, relationships, etc. Would love to hear from anyone though.
Thanks ladies!

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Eagle Brook Church. I go to the Blaine campus and have never felt better than since we started to go there. Seriously. Best decision ever. My 17 y/o DD WANTS to go. Sarah, they all seem to be in your neck of the woods. We went to the Lino Lakes service on Easter. I really love it there. I believe you get so much out of it. Amy, if you are wondering what a regular service is, check it out online. They have services that you can watch online if you're curious if this is something you'd like to try.
Plus you can drink coffee during the service if you want to. Bring your own, or you can buy some.

I've actually been thinking of going to Eagle Brook in White Bear! A couple friends of mine go there and seem to love it. I just feel like a fake or something because I have never been the church going type. Maybe it is time to try! Sarah, when I go, I will let you know!

I have been searching for a church that fits me and my fam. DH refuses to join or really even go to church anymore. He HATES organized religion. He does support my desire to have our kids attend and learn tough. My older DDs went to a Christian preschool which is nice so they are learning but they still have so many questions I can't answer.
We joined 1 church and then a week after we went through all the membership classes and member service they completely changed everything we loved about the church. There were also a few sermons that really touched a nerve with us so we quit going. The next year we attended the church where my DDs went to preschool. DD1 went to Sunday School but they really didn't explain much to her. For example on Palm Sunday they paraded through the church with palms but never told the kids why and the meaning behind Palm Sunday. One of our good friends attended with me and she works at a restaurant the Pastor visits. She said after seeing how he treated the staff when he came in that she would not attend his church anymore. I decided I didn't want to go there anymore either. So back to the church hunt we go! I do have a short list of ones I would like to check out just got to make the time to go.
Good Luck on your search! It sounds like you have some good ones to check out!

A bit of a commute, but I know a great church in SLP! Tee hee! J/k. If you aren't up for change, it won't be the place for you. Our youth director left in January; our education director is leaving in June and our 33 year Pastor will be retiring in the next year. Lots of shake-ups going on in the near future!

I second Eagle Brook Church - we have been going there for almost six years and absolutely love it! You will not feel like an outsider - it is very welcoming and you will not be judged. The sign outside the White Bear Lake Campus says exactly what you are thinking: "Try Church Again." Their messages are real and relevant, you will laugh, cry, and my most favorite thing is that you will see that the Pastors are all down to earth human beings just like the "rest of us." We go to the White Bear Campus every Sunday at 11 and I'd be glad to meet you, show you around, etc. Like Laura's, our kids WANT to go there, and so does my DH, so it's been a great fit for our whole family.
Good luck - something is out there that will feel right and you will enjoy.

My parents occasionally go to the Eagle Brook campus in Lino Lakes and really seem to enjoy it. DH is Catholic so I have been attending church with his family at St. Mary's in White Bear Lake. I was raised Methodist but my family never really pushed religion or church, so when DH and I started going it was a really new experience. I felt a connection right away and I am so happy it was a good fit for our family. I am even in the process of converting to Catholism.

We really like our church in St. Paul. It is a United Church of Christ Church (UCC) which is a protestant denomination that is more liberally in its views than many others. Our congregation is open and affirming for gay and lesbians. Our church is revitalizing which means that we are growing and there are lots of families. Luke loves his Sunday School and it is a warm environment. www.spucconsummit.org/cms/

Sarah, does the wbl campus have a parent\child room... sound proof but still streams the service through speakers?

Yes, the White Bear Lake campus has a parent/child room and it has TV's so you can see the service as well. Their kids ministries are incredible as well.

I totally agree about their kids ministries. They've really got it figured out.
