Hi Ladies! I've mentioned on here that I'm trying to implement a "health and wellness" plan (REFUSE to call it a diet!) and I thought it'd be fun to chat and support other moms who are also trying to improve their health. It is SUCH a challenge to find the time and stay committed when you're juggling kids, work, marriage/relationship, to-do tasks, being a decent friend, daughter, sister, employee, boss, etc. etc. etc. We all wear many hats and oftentimes they conflict with each other, leaving us to neglect our own selves.
SO ... I hope on here we can encourage each other, offer tips or suggestions, or vent if need be.
My update is that I have been on my "health and wellness" plan for WEEKS -- I want to say since early April. I had the goal to lose 7 pounds. It took me about 6 weeks to lose 3 pounds, and then in one week I gained it ALL BACK. I was so frustrated, it was like HOW in the heck did THAT happen? Grrr ... well, I kept at it despite my frustration, hopped on the scale this morning and now I am down 5 pounds!! Hallelujah!!! The irony is, I haven't been as disciplined this last week with 4th of July celebrations, lots of food around etc. So my guess is that all of the hard work I was doing, even though I gained those 3 pounds back, paid off now with a (delayed) weight loss.
SO my point today is to tell you that if you're working hard and not seeing results, it makes you want to scream, but hang in there and later on you will get the pay off. I have never had that happen before where I was busting my butt, gained weight (BOOO) and then later on it came off. WEIRD. Makes no sense to me -- but our bodies are not machines and we have irritating natural weight fluctuations and everything else, who knows. But stay the course, be kind to yourself, forgive yourself when you have a bad day!

I think this is a great idea, Renee! I've been 'clean eating' for about 5 weeks now. I did cheat over the 4th of July weekend but other than that I've been pretty good about it. I also don't want to call it a "diet" because I want it to be a lifestyle change.
Have you heard of or tried Isagenix? I went to a sales party for it last night and it seemed interesting. Not sure how I feel about commiting to trying it though because it's a bit spendy. One thing I thought was cool is they have 'green packs' which is powder you put in a shake and it has 4-5 servings of vegetables, and I usually have a hard time getting in enough veggies during the day.
Anyway- I haven't weighed myself yet because I've been too worried I haven't lost anything. I get discouraged when I eat really healthy and don't cheat and still don't lose!

I have been slowly gaining, but it is muscle. I have been working out and stretching a lot. If you go from zero to working out, you will see an addition of pounds. It is you body making muscle, which weighs more than fat. I am up about 4 lbs, but my clothes are either the same fit, or looser. It is still discouraging to see the number go up.

Good idea Renee.
Tonight is my 7th session of Bootcamp. Also, I do Combat during the school year w/ some gals. Tomorrow I am walking or running around a track in Shakopee.
I am trying to loose weight. I have my reunion next month. I am not the greatest of eating my best. Chocolate is my major weakness. So is going shopping when hungry. I was in a funk yesterday. I am not the greatest of working out on my own. I am part of this group on fb. If any of you want to join I could invite you. It is motivation & accountability group. What you do is: write down (tell others) what exercise you have done or tell others any tips you have. I have 2 exercise videos. I have 2 exercise machines.

Thank you all for weighing in (no pun intended!) on this issue. I think it's such a challenge at this life stage, and any support or encouragement is absolutely appreciated! I'm lucky that my BFF and I work out about 2-3 times a week together, so I have decent motivation for exercising. My challenge for SURE is my sweet tooth. I'm trying to make sure that I have healthy snacks at work so I don't eat unhealthy junk. My other current strategy is to try to eat until I feel 80% full and then stop because I grew up with the whole "clean your plate" mentality, NOT good! So I'm trying to be more comfortable with throwing away food (granted, I hate wasting food, so bad for the environment and your budget--but it's better in the trash than on me).
Apryll, I haven't heard of Isagenix. You'll have to give us a report! My current strategy is to eat more fruits and vegetables, track my calories and exercise (I use myfitnesspal app) and do other tweaks (like I mentioned above). I am trying to drink tea at night--it satisfies my sweet tooth without the calories so when my DH sits next to me with a bowl of ice cream at 9 pm, I'll brew some tea instead.

Thanks for starting this chat. I am working on losing weight and exercising more. I have been doing weight watchers online for 2 1/2 weeks and have lost 5 lbs. I am also working on the Couch to 5K program as I am signed up for the warrior dash with DH in 8 weeks.
Like Renee I am focusing on eating fruits and vegetables more and making good choices overall.
My goal is to get to my "wedding weight" by our 10th anniversary, which means I have 15 months to lose 80 lbs. I have unfortunately gained that much weight due to the hormones of infertility drugs, pregnancy, stress-eating with work and school and not exercising regularly for the past 2 years of grad school. I know I can do it if I stick to the Weight Watchers plan. I also want to lose enough weight and get in good enough shape for a sprint distance triathlon next summer (I have done them before but the last one was 3 years ago and then I injured my ankle in a 10K race 2 years ago.....time to get back on the bandwagon)

Well so far, so good on the Weight Watchers online tracking. I am down 8.8lbs in 4 weeks.
Struggling with getting workouts in, I am forcing myself to go tonight for a walk/jog after DS goes to bed.
I found out this weekend that one of my best friends and her husband are doing WW online too! Which means I have someone else to hold me accountable....yay!

That's awesome!! You've lost 8 pounds in 4 weeks?!? WOW I am so impressed because it took my 6 weeks to lose 3 pounds. Way to GO!!
Online help is really great. Having a friend, a team, or some outside group to hold you accountable and be a cheerleader helps a ton. Great!

I forced myself to the gym after work last night even though I really didn't want to go. I brought my gym bag with me today so I plan on going again.. hopefully I can get into a habit.

Does anyone else have trouble coming up with a routine while at the gym? I usually run or do some other type of cardio but I did a fit test and was told I need to incorporate strength training. The problem is I don't have any idea where to begin creating a routine. I can't afford a trainer, so that's not an option :/

That's the area I always struggle with too Apryll. Does your gym at least have a free or cheap fitness orientation where they show you how to use the weight machines? Then you could go online for some ideas about a routine.

I think I do get one free personal training session. I'll have to ask tonight when I go in. I usually stay away from the the machines because I never know what I'm doing and I'm worried I'll end up hurting myself rather than helping lol

I'm on week 2 of exercising! Eating has gotten a lot better than it has. My husband is my trainer (he's really into strength training and has ran a marathon I think I can trust him!) We are both on a site called Fitocracy (like facebook/twitter but for fitness) keeps you motivated with a point system and you can follow others to motivate you!

The other thing is -- usually a staff member at the gym is happy to show you how to do a machine or two. If you ask a staff member to help you learn one machine each day you're there, by the end of a month you'll have a bunch of machines you can try!
