Their rooms are about quadruple the size of Childrens. And i DO NOT exagerate. With DD she took a nice big crap in my stomach, they found it when they popped my water, the room was BARELY big enough to hold the doctor, three nurses, BD, his mom and myself. BARELY big enough. And they were trying to get even more nurses in there. ugh...it was terrible. then the room they put us in after delivery was even smaller.

Ish. No fun. I don't get why he'd want to go back there then... I guess for the sentimentalness or whatever since that's where he was born. Whatevs... haha

i can understand that, but it's your choice...be comfy! also, he probably doesn't remember how horrible it was there since he was a baby the first time, and lets just say "not all there" the second time lol. St.Johns is the place to be! I think I want to check out the new birthing hospital they have in Maple Grove though. it's supposed to be REALLY, and i mean REAAAALLY nice!

He was a big pile of stupid back then. (Still is sometimes) lol He's still kinda "not all there". He's just gained a little back since then but not much. hahaha (I say that with love lol) Oooh I bet!! Maple Grove is such a nice area!

I delivered at St. John's and loved it too....
Just a few thoughts. I would contact St. John's to find out their policies about children in delivery rooms. If it were me I wouldn't do it....but if you decide that is what you want I would make sure you have someone available to DD that is not your DH so that if she wants to go home (sometimes labor can be long!) or wants to get food, etc you still have DH with you. Also, keep in mind if you will bring her if it is the middle of the night or if it would be better to have someone come to your place and bring her to the hospital in the morning. We had to leave at 4:30a for the hospital and I would not have wanted to wake up an older sibling for it.
Another thing I have heard of a lot of parents doing is giving the older sibling a gift from the new baby, this can help even if the older sibling is excited it is still a big change.
My brother and SIL just had a baby last week and the grandparents stayed with my niece at their house while SIL was in labor. They all went to the hospital when my nephew was born, but let my niece have special big sister time before the grandparents met him.

I didn't have my son in with me when his sister was born - he was 5. He didn't have any interest in being in there either. If he wanted to I probably would have let him. I would just be careful that your daughter doesn't get scared seeing what is going on. My son would have been very anxious watching me be in pain. BUT - it's your birth and you can have whoever you want in there with you!!

DS did get to be the first to visit his sister, though. No one was allowed in until after he had seen her. Not that anyone was really waiting since I had her at 1:30 am and we didn't tell anyone until later that day!

Back then I just ignored it cause he was 'soooo cute' lol Ahh so young... Now, I just give him a good kick in the shins when that HS version of himself decides to come out lol But yes he is a great guy. That's why I married him

DD1 was with me when DD2 was born- well, for everything except the actual delivery, she was getting food with my mom at that time. Both DD1 and DD2 were with me when I had DD3- though I had her at home so it wasn't a big deal.

Angel - I love how you say "it wasn't a big deal b/c I had her at home". I still can't believe you had her at home....I am normally a calm person but I think I would have been freaking out!

I agree with Dara....I would call especially since it will be in the middle of flu season they may have restricted visit times etc. I know it isn't "fair" but on the other hand they have to do it to protect their other patients. Most of the time they don't but I'd check to be safe.
Good luck with everything!

I would also call and asked if they even allow children. Most I have heard of do not. I for one would not want a younger child there, but your DD is older. No way would I have DS there now. But I have fast easy births so we may be in and out (literally lol)

I wouldn't mind having my kids at my birth. My first one I had 4 med students, my mom, mil, brother, friend, dh, dad and fil at times. Fil and mil stepped out frequently though, lol. I have no issues with anyone seeing any part of my birth...pretty open book here.

I don't see why the hospital wouldn't allow it. What if someone doesn't have anyone to watch their kid/s?? What are they supposed to do?? That would be dumb IMO. But I will for sure call and check.
I don't mind DD being there at all! I would love it! She's been my biggest support system throughout this pregnancy. I'm thinking about showing her my pics from when I gave birth to her and see how she reacts to them. But I think she would do great during it all.
