So today my grandma & I were talking and she asked what I was going to with DD while I'm in the hospital when I have DS. She offered to take her while I was there. I told her, "she's going to with me." And she was all, "Are you kidding??"... Ummm NO. She got a huge attitude about the whole thing like it was horrible for me to have DD there. And she said that the hospital wont allow her to stay with me and blah blah blah.. (Ya know how Gmas know it all!) I don't see what the big deal is though. I mean, I might not have her in the room while he's coming out and all but otherwise I plan on having her there with us the whole time. It's a big thing for her too. It's her brother being born. And I know she really wants to be there for it all. Would you have your DD/DS be in the room with you?? ~~UPDATE~~ Just figured I'd post a little update about this... I did decide to have DD in the room with me during everything and she was WONDERFUL!! She was very curious and would ask questions and watch whenever my doctor or a nurse would do something to me. We had a little scare in the middle of the night when DS's heart rate dropped and they had to put me on oxygen and stuff and DD just stood right next to me and held my hand. During the birth she was right next to me the whole time holding my arm. (Since DH was holding my hand) She was just amazed by the whole experience and I'm SO SO happy she was there with me to be apart of it all

OOOOOOOOH SCREW THAT! Hospitals will let you have whoever you want to be in there. Some of them do limit the number of people though to one or two. I'm doing the same thing with DD when we get preggars and have a baby. She will be in the room, unless she REALLY doesn't want to. its her choice...but i would never tell her she COULDN'T. It's important I think for kids to see the process...really help them understand it's not just a stork that drops off the kids at the door step! Especially at the age she is, she's old enough to be able to understand if you tell her what is going on. I say do it! DO IT! DO IT! Granny isn't the one that has to deal with any repercussions of it...you are. So make the choice YOU and DH and DD want!

I agree with Amy! Go for it! I personally didn't have DD1 in the room with me but she was also only 2 at the time but if we ever do have another baby I will totally let her and DD2 in there...if they want!

That's what I was thinking too! She's just a crazy old lady lol I asked DD if she wanted to be there and she was all, "YES! I'm going to hold your hand and take care of you the whole time! I will never leave your side!" lol I love her I don't plan on having a lot of people in the room. Just me, DH, DD, MIL & my BF. It was just going to be us but DH wants his mom in there which I'm totally OK with. And my BF is going to be my photographer for the birth and all that. So she's definitely not leaving the room! lol

Yeah she's pretty awesome I'm just hoping she'll make it up here on time. As long as MY mother isn't in the room everything should be gravy.

I think as long as there is someone there keeping an eye on her in case she gets scared, tired, overwhelmed. She will probably need some breaks to run around, eat, etc.

Hahaha I'm sure there will be bitching but with her living in WI and the joys of caller ID I wont have to listen to it very often lol The ONLY reason she was in the room when DD was born is because I needed someone to take pics of the birth for me.

Yeah, I'm hoping SIL will be up here too for it to help out. (It's still a maybe though.) But otherwise I'm sure MIL will help out with DD. She did good when we were at the hospital when I was having contractions. I think we were there for like 4-5 hours. I just kept the TV on some cartoons and she was really good.

I think no matter what, you'll have enough people there to help keep an eye on her if she doesn't stay with you the whole time. What hospital are you delivering at?

St.John's. It's where I was born & where DD was born. I grew up going there. Plus it's like 5 mins from the house. (Unlike when I was pregnant with DD and lived in Spring Lake Park. That drive sucked!) I love it though. DH wasn't really happy with having DS there at first but now he's OK with it.

Yeah, i was gonna say, don't do childrens downtown st. paul. even since they "revamped" their maternal ward, it's still TINY rooms, horrible food, and just not somewhere that is calming. i mean, it's downtown for gosh sakes! lol
I hear and have seen GREAT things with St.Johns though. At least they keep you in the same room the whole time instead of moving you all over kingdom come for the three days your there. ugh!

That's where DH wanted to go. Ick. No downtown for me! Yeah I love that! And the food is good, they were remodeling the rooms when I was pregnant with DD so now all the rooms got flat screens and DVD players. And their rooms are pretty good sized too.
