You're the first person I've heard of wanting to have a little one in the room with you. But you make good points. You know what's right for you and your family! It's probably a great idea to keep your daughter as excited and involved as possible!

I think it's great to have siblings in the birthing room with you. I know it makes it less confusing for the older child, for one! Lol! I brought my girls with to pregnancy dr appts and the ultrasounds. We talked baby all of the time so it was very natural for them to be with me. I'm actually disappointed that my mom took DD1 out of the room when DD2 was being born. As for when I had DD3 both D1 and D2 were there but they didn't even notice me giving birth because I was squatting, facing away from them, they were playing in the running faucet water, it only took two little pushes to get her out AND she was born under water. Basicslly what I'm saying is that just because someone is in the room doesn't mean you see anything!

Very true! She may not see anything at all. I think she'd be OK if she did though. She's a pretty strong little lady. DD has been to every appt with me. She's been 100% apart of everything I've gone through with this pregnancy.

I have been having this debate too. DD is 4yrs old. She doesn't sit still well, especially for long periods of time. My hospital has DVD players, so I plan on bringing a few movies, and both DH and I will be bringing our android tablets for her to play games on. We have been to l&d several times and she has done OK. It is just the only people we have around to watch her live about an hour from the hospital (St. Francis in Shakeopee), and I am afraid they won't make it in time.

It is rare that they won't allow siblings in for certain times but I know some hospitals have rules because of insurance reasons. Also, because it is during flu season. I know my friend said her daughter was only allowed to visit during visitation times. She was upset but then understood that they have to do it.
I hope it works out for you to have her in there.

I think it is totally up to you what you do. I do know that when I had my DD I was glad that I was with her all alone. I had time to spend with just her and not have to worry about entertaining DS. It was a really special time for bonding with her.

I have to agree with everyone in some portion of their posts... but I think the number one priority, behind making sure the hospital doesn't make a stink, is to be sure that Gwen isn't scared. That would be the only down side that I can think of... she may be very upset if she sees you in a great deal of pain. That would be my main concern.

My son is almost 2 and when he was born (during flu season) no kids were allowed on the labor and delivery floor. DD didn't get to meet her brother until I came home. I called a bunch of hospitals at the time because I really wanted DD to be able to meet her brother when he was born. NONE of them allowed it. So like others have said you may want to check the hospital. They said it was for the welfare of all the babies on the floor so they didn't get the flu. I asked what we were supposed to do if we didn't have anyone to watch DD until my parents could get there and they lived a hour away. They said DH could have her downstairs.

I just called St.John's and they said it was completely up to me. They have no problem with it. Just as long as I'm not her primary care giver while being there. Which obvioulsy I wont be. So everything is all good when it comes to that I really don't thinking she'll freak out. She's stronger than me most days when it comes to a lot of things. She's seen me in a massive pain before. Obviously nothing compared to this (except when SHE was causing it! lol) But I'll make sure to have enough people there so that if she does get scared there will be someone there to take her out of the room.

glad it worked out. I was pretty upset when they wouldn't let DD to see her brother. I actually only stayed for one day because of it.

I didn't have DD with me. I went into labor right after she left for school. DH came home and got me to hospital within an hour and a half. They wheeled me into L& D and broke my water. DS hear trate did funny stuff and they gave me gas and rolled me into surgery. He was out 30 minutes after I got to the hospital. (The card was around his neck). ''''''''''''''''a few hours later DH went to pick up DD after she got home from school and they both came back. I was at Woodwinds and had pretty large room IMO.
