I am SO, so excited for the Olympics!! Maybe it's cheesy, but for some reason I'm really looking forward to cheering on the athletes this year. There was a great profile in today's Star Tribune on Duluth marathoner Kara Goucher, and I think that plus the coverage on Eden Prairie swimmer Rachel Bootsma is making me really root for our homegrown Olympians.

Wow, that is so cool to watch someone you used to compete against be in the OLYMPICS. Wow! My sisters ran Division I cross country and track back in the day (I did not) so years ago (now they're in their 40s) some of their old team mates or competitors would be in the Olympics and I thought that was amazing. Love it.

I am looking forward to the swimming too. Unfortunately a lot of the sports that Denmark competes in won't make it on US TV so I might need to find a place online to catch that. I'm not an Olympic junkie but I do love to watch and see the stuff about the location. I know it was fun to watch what they were saying about the Atlanta Olympics when we were in the thick of it.

USA! USA! USA! Women's soccer had their first win today over France 4-2! Some pool play has started already since it take so long to get through all the games.

Well? What did you all think?
We really enjoyed the opening ceremonies and I thought the torch was an especially touching symbol!

The Opening Ceremony was 'exactly' what I was expecting. By that I mean, NOT the same type as Bejing and something celebrating the history of GB, as well as the famous movie and literature icons. There were parts that I loved, parts that I was bored of, parts that I really found touching, parts that I didn't. The bar was re-set, and the NEXT Olympic Opening Ceremony will have many more options with what to do. I'm a major sap, I was choked up through most of the Opening Ceremony, it was hard for me to explain to my girls what was going on and why and what it all meant. I'm with Sharon, I loved the torch lighting. I was great how "the future joined all of the countries together as one flame." The symbolism of it was magnificent! Oh, and Sir Paul McCartney has always been my favorite Beatle, and I loved how touched he was when he started "Hey Jude." I wasn't sure, at first, about that being a great song choice but then I realized that it was perfect because it is all about letting go of differences and accepting someone into your life. Exactly what the Olympics are all about. =D

Boring!!!!!! I only enjoyed from the parade of nations on. The whole beginning and showing off of their country was so boring. They could have done so much better, imo.
